FAQs

Does a GP need to refer me?

Does a GP need to refer me?

Does a GP need to refer me?

No. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners and patients can contact us directly. If we feel osteopathy is not appropriate and it is necessary then we will refer you to your GP or to the relevant health practitioner.

What should I wear?

Does a GP need to refer me?

Comfortable loose clothing works best. You may be required to remove some items of clothing (not underwear) for examination but can then redress for your treatment if you prefer.

A vest, loose top, or t-shirt and leggings, tights, loose trousers or shorts are ideal.

No jeans or sports bras please.

What do I need to bring?

Can someone come with me?

Please bring as little as possible with you into the treatment room. I can provide you with hand sanitiser gel and a mask to wear for the duration of your appointment if necessary.

Please bring details of your past medical history and any medication you are taking to your first appointment.

If you would prefer to bring a chaperone then I am happy to accommodate them.

Under 16's must always be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Are there toilet facilities?

Osteopathy is a very gentle manual therapy.

It is however not uncommon to feel some discomfort up to 48 hours after treatment as your body adjusts to the subtle changes made, but if you are at all concerned then please do give me a call for advice.

Access to a toilet can only be provided in an emergency.

I recommend going to the toilet before coming wherever possible.

What is the difference between an osteopath, chiropractor & physiotherapist?

What is the difference between an osteopath, chiropractor & physiotherapist?

What is the difference between an osteopath, chiropractor & physiotherapist?

We are all similar in that we work with the body to help relieve musculoskeletal pain.

Osteopaths are holistic, meaning we look at the whole body to try and work out why pain is felt at a certain point.

A chiropractor works in a similar way to an osteopath but focuses mainly on the spine and nervous system for cause.

Physiotherapists vary greatly. Some treat in a very similar way to an osteopath. Others specialise in rehabilitation. They often provide exercises to help support recovery.

Do osteopaths only treat backs?

What is the difference between an osteopath, chiropractor & physiotherapist?

Not at all! There is a list on my home page but osteopathy is the application of anatomical knowledge to help restore correct structure to allow correct function. The techniques we use can be applied to all areas of the body to help relieve pain and restore mobility.

The main areas that I treat tend to be backs, neck, shoulders, hips, and knees. I also treat discomfort during pregnancy, babies and children.

How many sessions will I need?

What is the difference between an osteopath, chiropractor & physiotherapist?

How many sessions will I need?

This question is a bit like 'how long is a piece of string?' in that it depends on each individual, what they are seeing me for and how their body responds to treatment.

I can assure you that I will always do my upmost to get you better as fast as I can.

There are obviously exceptions but for most 4-6 treatments are usually sufficient to provide relief.

Some patients feel benefit from on going sessions every few weeks but its down to each individual and what works for you.

Where can I park?

Am I registered with private healthcare providers?

How many sessions will I need?

Please feel very welcome to park on the driveway, however if there is no room then you can easily find free parking on the road.

Am I registered with private healthcare providers?

I choose not to be directly registered with private providers, however several such as WPA, Simplyhealth and AVIVA are happy to authorise their customers to see me as a registered osteopath and then claim the cost back using your receipts.

Do check with your provider before booking.
